Uitdagingen voor eindgebruikers bij mechanische ventilatiesystemen voor de beheersing van luchtweginfecties

20 June 2025

How do mechanical ventilation systems really protect us from airborne infections, and why do end-users still face so many challenges?

In this article, Dr. Elham Maghsoudi Nia and Prof. dr. ir. Atze Boerstra communicate directly with end-users through four workshops to understand the real-world challenges faced by the people who use and manage mechanical ventilation systems and air cleaners in controlling airborne infections.

Between April and July 2024, the MIST team conducted four interactive sessions under the title “MIST Workshop – Issues in Practice”. These workshops were designed to hear directly from end-users, including facility managers, about their experiences, concerns, and needs regarding mechanical ventilation systems.

Key challenges identified include information gaps, communication breakdowns, and a lack of motivation. The article also discusses:

Tailoring communication formats to different target groups;

Who needs to take action

Read the full article to learn how better communication and user-centred design can improve the effectiveness of ventilation and air cleaner systems in protecting public health.
