The Kick Off

The Kick Off event (23 and 24 January 2023) of the Mitigation Strategies for Airborne Infection Control (MIST) project marked an exciting milestone in the fight against airborne infectious diseases and harmful agents, with a specific focus on combating COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2). The project was granted a substantial funding of €4.339.987,00 from the NWO (Dutch Research Council) for the next six years, reflecting the significance of the research. The event brought together an exceptional blend of expertise, comprising fluid dynamics, physics, molecular biology, medicine, engineering, and collaboration with 28 companies. Nestled amidst the tranquil and picturesque surroundings of Bad Boekelo, in the serene Twente woods, participants engaged in face-to-face discussions, exchanging ideas, and engaging in lively debates. The gathering fostered an interdisciplinary atmosphere that paved the way for planning further collaborative work and strengthening connections among the researchers, industry partners, and stakeholders involved in this critical endeavor. The Kick Off event embodied the spirit of scientific exploration and collaboration, setting the stage for groundbreaking advancements in ventilation and aerosol research, poised to shape the future of airborne infection control.
