Background:
Professor Heiman Wertheim leads the clinical microbiology department at Radboudumc, chairs the Radboud Center of Infectious Diseases, and has a diverse background that includes directing the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Vietnam, focusing on controlling infectious diseases in low resource settings. His multidisciplinary approach spans health systems, policy development, behaviour, surveillance, prevention, genomics, and clinical trials. During the pandemic he was part of the infection control team that developed national guidelines for healthcare. The work at Radboudumc he was part of was important for developing evidence-based strategies for masking of healthcare workers.
